FAQ

Things students ask.

Do I need to bring my own costume?

Not for your first trial — we'll provide what you need. Once you enrol, we'll recommend a starter kit for Choreography that suits your level and budget.

How long until I can perform a full Choreography piece?

Most beginners perform their first short choreography within 8–12 weeks of consistent practice.

Can I switch teachers if it isn't a fit?

Absolutely. The teacher-student match matters more than anything else — just tell us and we'll re-match, no awkwardness.

Is there a recital?

Yes — we host an annual GADD9 showcase plus quarterly in-house performances. Participation is encouraged but never forced.

What makes Choreography at GADD9 different?

Personalised pacing, a teacher matched to your goals, and a community of fellow students who genuinely cheer you on. We measure success in how often you actually practise.

The Story

Where Choreography comes from — and where it lives now.

Compose with bodies. Concept, musicality, formations and direction — become the person who makes the piece.

Choreography as a distinct discipline — the composition of movement, as opposed to its performance — was named and studied in the 18th century by writers such as Jean-Georges Noverre, whose 'ballet d'action' first argued that dance should tell a story through movement itself, not just decorate a text.
