Where Tabla comes from — and where it lives now.
The language of layam. Bols, taals and gharana traditions, taught with old-school patience and new-school clarity.
The tabla is generally believed to have taken its modern form in North India between the 17th and 18th centuries, most likely by dividing the earlier pakhawaj barrel drum into a treble (dayan) and bass (bayan) pair. Legend credits the innovation to the court musician Amir Khusrau, though the historical record is less clear.
